Free "Prior Evidence" Month

Do you know someone who may be Mensa material? During the month of February, they can send in the results of any standardized intelligence test they've taken in the past, and we will waive the application fee to review their scores for American Mensa membership. (There is usually a $40 fee to review test scores.)

American Mensa accepts the results from more than 200 tests; a partial list of accepted tests and scores may be found at www.us.mensa.org/testscores. To take advantage of this offer, your friends and colleagues should download an application from www.us.mensa.org/application. They will need to return the application, along with their test scores, by February 28, 2010.

The Clint Clark Memorial Limerick Contest

Deadline: Monday, February 15, 2010, 10:00 pm
Format: typed, printed, or neatly written, hand-delivered or sent by U.S. Mail or email to the Editor, Anne Taft (see masthead for contact info).

This contest is named after Clinton Clark, a member of Mensa for over 50 years. He has served as Proctor and Ombudsman, and has undoubtedly held other jobs that we don't know about. He was an avid limericist. Not only did he enter our contests, he also submitted limericks for our readers' enjoyment even when there was no contest. Marjory Clark, Clint's widow, will serve as honorary chair ex-officio of this year's contest. Anne Taft, editor of The MOST, will serve as judge. The decision of the judge will be arbitrary, capricious, and final.

An example of the form of a limerick:

There once was a vicar of Ghent,
An insult his ego has bent.
He went to the sea
And said, “Oh, dear me!”
And returned to his birthplace in Kent.

The judge looks favorably upon entries that adhere to the scheme of rhyme and meter that define a limerick. The winning limerick (and as many runners-up as space permits) will be printed in the March 2010 issue of The MOST. So remember, this is a family publication.

Rank American Mensa's Top 50 Web Sites

Is BoingBoing better than Bing? Drudge, Rockwell or Mish? And can your curiosity withstand a site called Gray Squirrel's Page of Silliness?

Yes, your peers have spoken. More than 8,500 votes later, the list of Mensans' favorite Internet places has been cut from more than 200 to 100. Now it's time for you and all your Mensan friends to visit http://www.us.mensa.org/top50sites and rank these 100 as they appear in nine categories. The final list will be cut down to 50 in March, so login and make your choices today! When American Mensa's Top 50 Web Sites is announced, we want it to include YOU!
